What a Saily cruise eSIM plan is
Standard travel eSIMs connect to land-based mobile networks. Once a ship travels beyond the reach of terrestrial mobile networks, a standard Saily Country or Regional plan should not be expected to connect. This is expected behaviour, not a fault, and troubleshooting will not change it.
Cruise ships operate their own onboard cellular equipment, connected by satellite. Saily cruise eSIM plans are built for that network type. They are separate products from Saily's Country, Regional, and Ultra plans, which I cover in my guide to Saily's plan types.
Where to find them
During my check, there was no link on saily.com. The path in the app was:

If the Cruise tab does not appear, the account has not received it yet. Saily's help documentation states that the rollout is gradual and the plans may not yet be available to everyone. Cruise plans are metered rather than unlimited. Some competing maritime connectivity products market unlimited usage, while the Saily plans displayed in my account used fixed data allowances. Which model offers better value depends on the length of the sailing, expected usage, and current competitor pricing.
The cruise plans displayed a higher Saily Credit rate than the standard land plans shown in my account at the time of testing. These credits may be applied to a future eligible purchase, subject to Saily's current terms. They are not an immediate discount on the cruise plan being purchased, and the displayed credit rate may change.
Promotional codes
During my checkout test on 5 August 2026, an eligible Saily promotional code was accepted for a cruise plan.

I treat this as an app availability list, not as confirmation that every vessel operated by each company is supported.
Saily's announcement referred to more than 200 vessels, while the app displayed companies rather than individual ships during my check on 5 August 2026. Confirm support for your specific ship and sailing inside the app before purchasing.
Two observations worth noting. The presence of P&O Ferries indicates that the availability list may extend beyond conventional cruise lines. I have not verified whether other ferry operators are supported.
The list also includes TUI Cruises and Hapag-Lloyd Cruises, neither of which appeared in the English-language announcement — relevant for German-speaking travellers.
How it works at sea
Three details from Saily's official help documentation:
Activation begins beyond 12 nautical miles from the coast. In port and along the coastline, the cruise plan will not connect. Saily's documentation identifies being outside the active coverage zone as a common reason why a cruise plan may not connect.
The operator name confirms the connection. Your phone's network settings will show 901-18, WMS, or Cellular at Sea when connected to the ship's maritime network.
Land plans are not a substitute. A regular Saily Country or Regional plan should not be expected to connect to the ship's maritime network.
Conversely, I have not verified whether a cruise plan provides usable coverage ashore.
Travellers who want mobile data both offshore and during port visits may therefore need two separate products: a cruise plan for supported maritime coverage, and a Country or Regional plan for land-based networks.
Who this is actually for
Metered cruise plans are most suitable for travellers who want basic connectivity rather than continuous high-bandwidth use.
Potentially suitable for: messaging, checking email, occasional photo uploads, travel updates, and light browsing. The 500 MB day plan may be useful for a single sea day, while the 1 GB package may be sufficient for a short sailing if usage is carefully controlled.
Less suitable for: streaming, frequent video calls, cloud backups, large uploads, or working online for several hours per day. These activities can consume a metered allowance quickly, particularly when several devices are connected.
For heavier use, compare Saily's current price and data allowance with unlimited maritime plans before purchasing.
Not suitable for: travellers whose ship is not confirmed as supported, or passengers who do not need mobile connectivity while offshore. A regular Country or Regional plan for port days may be the more economical option.
How Saily differs from other cruise connectivity options
Saily takes a metered approach to cruise connectivity, offering fixed data allowances rather than positioning every plan as unlimited. This can make it a practical option for travellers who mainly need messaging, email, and occasional browsing at sea.
Travellers who expect to stream, make frequent video calls, or work intensively from the ship should also compare current unlimited maritime plans and onboard Wi-Fi packages. The best option depends on the supported ship, sailing length, expected usage, and current pricing.

The ad blocker may be particularly relevant on a metered connection, because blocking some advertising content can reduce unnecessary data transfers.
I have not independently measured how much data these features save on a cruise plan.
The features apply only while mobile data is routed through the Saily connection. They do not protect or modify traffic sent through the ship's Wi-Fi network.
What I could not verify
Real-world performance at sea. No speeds, latency figures, or reliability data.
Whether the cruise plan works ashore. The documentation implies it is not intended to; I have no test to confirm it.
Ship-level coverage. The app lists companies, not individual vessels.
Why the rollout is staggered, or whether access can be requested.
Whether the displayed Saily Credit rate is permanent or a launch condition.

Frequently asked questions
Does a regular Saily plan work on a cruise ship?
No. According to Saily's help documentation, regular Country and Regional plans rely on land-based mobile networks, which are out of range once the ship is at sea. To use Saily on a supported maritime mobile network, a dedicated Saily cruise plan is required. Onboard ship Wi-Fi remains a separate connectivity option.
Why is there no signal while the ship is in port?
Saily's documentation states that a cruise plan activates only once the ship is more than 12 nautical miles from the coast. In port and near the coastline it will not connect. This is expected behaviour rather than a fault.
How do I know the cruise plan is connected?
