Is Holafly worth the money? I bought a 16-day Holafly eSIM for our Austria road trip, recorded 30 speed tests, and used it for everything from navigation to working remotely with two laptops. Here's what impressed me, what could be better, and whether I'd buy it again.

My Quick Verdict: Reliable, Convenient, but Expensive
I was generally satisfied with Holafly, and I would buy it again for certain trips.
During our road trip through Austria, Holafly provided reliable mobile connectivity in almost every situation where I needed it. Navigation, messaging, browsing, and social media worked well.
One of the most convincing experiences was a three-hour remote work session in Zell am See, where my partner and I connected two laptops to my iPhone's Holafly hotspot.
The connection handled video calls and website work without major interruptions.
That experience showed me how useful an eSIM can be when you're traveling and don't want to depend on hotel or public Wi-Fi.
However, Holafly wasn't perfect.
The installation itself was manageable, but I initially found it confusing that I could purchase a package on the website without creating an account, then needed to register in the app using the same email address to access my purchase.
My biggest criticism is the price.
Holafly's unlimited-style travel eSIM is convenient, but that simplicity can cost considerably more than a smaller fixed-data package.
Holafly Pros and Cons
What I liked | What could be better |
|---|---|
Reliable connection during most of our trip | Higher price than fixed-data alternatives |
Good real-world download speeds | Confusing website-to-app account setup |
Successful hotspot use with two laptops | Occasional coverage gaps |
Clear and helpful app after setup | Hotspot conditions depend on the package |
No fixed gigabyte balance to monitor | Unlimited data can still be subject to fair-use policies |
My recommendation: Holafly is worth considering if you expect to use mobile data heavily, need internet for remote work, or don't want to monitor your data allowance.
For lighter travel with reliable accommodation Wi-Fi, I would compare cheaper fixed-data options first.

How I Tested Holafly in Austria
I purchased a 16-day Holafly Austria travel eSIM for our road trip, which ran from September 25 to October 11, 2026.
We traveled through cities, Alpine regions, the Wachau, and the Salzkammergut, including areas near international borders.
I used Holafly on my iPhone 15 Pro.
Rather than evaluating the service in one location, I wanted to see how well it supported everyday travel.
I used it for navigation, messaging, social media, websites, and occasional remote work.
I also recorded speed measurements with the Speedtest app.
My Test Setup
Test detail | What I used |
|---|---|
Provider | Holafly |
Product | 16-day Austria travel eSIM |
Smartphone | iPhone 15 Pro |
Road trip | September 25 to October 11, 2026 |
Austria speed-test dates | September 27 to October 8, 2026 |
Austria measurements | 30 |
Additional Germany measurements | 5 |
Activities | Navigation, browsing, messaging, hotspot and remote work |
For the intended cellular speed tests:
Wi-Fi was switched off.
NordVPN was disabled.
The Speedtest app selected its server automatically.
I didn't manually force LTE or 5G.
Some measurements were taken while traveling by car.
The location labels in the export are approximate for some measurements.
I excluded records with unresolved location or VPN concerns from the Austria summary.
The results describe my particular smartphone, connection, locations, and travel conditions. They shouldn't be interpreted as guaranteed speeds throughout Austria.
Holafly Speed Test Results: How Fast Was It?
Holafly delivered good mobile speeds during my Austria trip.
Across 30 measurements assigned to Austria, I recorded a median download speed of 160.14 Mbps.
My Austria Speed Test Results
Metric | Result |
|---|---|
Measurements | 30 |
Median download | 160.14 Mbps |
Median upload | 14.20 Mbps |
Median latency | 115.5 ms |
Lowest download | 19.19 Mbps |
Highest download | 260.86 Mbps |
The median describes the middle result rather than the fastest measurement.
That matters because mobile speeds vary substantially depending on location, network conditions, and the available connection.
In everyday use, I generally found Holafly fast enough for everything I needed.
Testing Holafly in Innsbruck
One of my documented speed tests took place in Innsbruck on September 27.
My iPhone recorded approximately 217.48 Mbps download and 83.72 Mbps upload.

This was a strong result, and I didn't notice any problems with ordinary mobile internet activities at that location.
Speed Tests in Dürnstein and Hallstatt
I also documented speed tests during stops in other Austrian regions.
In Dürnstein, a photograph of the Speedtest result shows approximately 261 Mbps download and 17.4 Mbps upload.

During our visit to Hallstatt, another photograph showed approximately 150 Mbps download and 6.97 Mbps upload.

The photographs document individual testing moments. Because the exact master-export records for every photographed result haven't been confirmed, I haven't added them separately to the 30-measurement summary.
Did I Notice the Difference in Everyday Use?
For most everyday activities, not really.
Navigation, messaging, websites, and social media worked smoothly in areas with a usable connection.
I rarely needed anything close to the maximum speeds recorded during testing.
For me, reliable connectivity mattered much more than achieving the highest download result.
I wouldn't claim Holafly is the fastest eSIM provider in Austria, because my tests don't establish that.
But based on my experience, its mobile performance was comfortably sufficient for normal travel and occasional remote work.
Network Coverage: Reliable Most of the Time
Overall, I was happy with Holafly's network reliability.
We traveled through cities, smaller towns, and mountainous areas. Most of the time, I had a usable connection.
That included situations where we were away from our accommodation and depended on mobile internet for navigation and everyday communication.
However, the connection wasn't perfect everywhere.
During the trip, we encountered approximately two or three locations without usable connectivity.
One was on a small mountain pass between the Altaussee area and Hallstatt.
Neither my Holafly connection nor my partner's Saily connection worked there.
That suggests the location itself was challenging, although I can't determine the exact network-related cause.
I also noticed occasional situations in underground parking garages where my Holafly connection lost reception while my partner still had service on Saily.
According to Holafly's support chatbot, its Austria eSIM can connect through Drei (H3G Austria), Magenta (T-Mobile Austria), and A1 Telekom. I couldn't independently verify which of these networks my iPhone actually used during the trip.
What About Border Areas?

We experienced some unreliable connectivity near international borders.
For a road trip involving Austria, Germany, Switzerland, or other nearby countries, I would compare country-specific eSIMs with regional Europe packages.
A regional eSIM may be more convenient when you cross borders regularly, provided it covers all your destinations.
I tested Holafly's Austria package, not its separate Europe travel eSIM.
For that reason, I can't make a first-hand performance claim about Holafly's Europe product based on this trip.
Holafly Hotspot Test: Two Laptops for Three Hours
One of my favorite practical experiences took place in Zell am See.
My partner and I needed to get some work done, so we connected both laptops to the hotspot on my iPhone using Holafly.
We worked for approximately three hours.
I participated in video calls while my partner worked on websites using Wix.
The connection remained reliable enough for both of us to work without major interruptions.
That impressed me more than an individual speed-test result.
It meant we could sit outdoors, open our laptops, and get our work done without relying on accommodation or public Wi-Fi.

Is Holafly Good for Remote Work?
Based on this experience, yes, for occasional remote work.
However, there are important limitations.
A successful three-hour session doesn't establish that hotspot sharing is unlimited or that the same speeds will be available in every destination.
Different Holafly travel packages and subscriptions may have different sharing allowances, network management rules, and fair-use conditions.
If you're planning to work extensively from your laptop, check the exact package's hotspot rules before purchasing.
For my own occasional remote work needs, Holafly performed well.
Installation and Activation: One Confusing Step
The installation itself was reasonably straightforward.
However, I found the account setup confusing.
I purchased my Holafly eSIM on the website, where I entered my email address without having to create an account or log in first.
Later, when I opened the Holafly app, I needed to use the same email address, verify it, and create my account to access the package I had purchased.
Once I understood the relationship between the website purchase and the app, everything worked as expected.
But initially, I wasn't sure how my purchase would appear in the app.
A clearer explanation immediately after checkout would have improved my first impression.
My Experience With the Holafly App
Once my account was set up, I found the app clear and helpful.
I could access my package and navigate the interface without difficulty.
I didn't experience ongoing problems using the app during the trip.
My criticism is therefore not about the app itself.
It's about the initial onboarding experience between purchasing on the website and setting up the app for the first time.
Holafly Pricing: My Biggest Criticism
Price was the biggest disadvantage for me.
Holafly's day-based unlimited-style travel eSIM is convenient, but that simplicity comes at a cost.
For our Austria trip, I purchased a 16-day Holafly package.
My receipt from September 25, 2026 showed:
Purchase detail | Amount |
|---|---|
Price before discount | $51.90 |
Amount paid | $49.31 |
Savings | $2.59 |
Purchased package duration | 16 days |

For the way I used Holafly, including occasional remote work, I received useful value.
However, if I had only needed mobile internet for navigation and messaging, I would have struggled to justify paying that much.
Is Holafly Unlimited Data Worth the Price?
For some travelers, absolutely.
I can understand paying more for the convenience of not having to monitor a fixed gigabyte allowance.
Holafly becomes particularly attractive when you:
Use mobile data heavily throughout the day.
Don't have reliable Wi-Fi at your accommodation.
Need internet for video calls or remote work.
Prefer choosing your travel days instead of estimating how many gigabytes you'll need.
For light data use, however, a smaller fixed-data package can be much more economical.
The best-value eSIM depends on your actual usage rather than the marketing description alone.
Is Holafly Really Unlimited?
Holafly advertises unlimited mobile data for its Austria travel eSIM.
I also contacted Holafly through its support chat, where the service confirmed that Austria is covered and the package offers unlimited data.
However, the same response included an important qualification.
According to Holafly's support information, local network operators may apply fair-use policies that reduce connection speeds when necessary.
That distinction matters.
Unlimited data doesn't necessarily mean unlimited full-speed data under every possible condition.
It also doesn't automatically mean unlimited hotspot sharing.
I didn't conduct a controlled test designed to establish whether or when a speed reduction would occur.
During my normal travel use, I didn't identify a consistent speed restriction that prevented me from using the connection as intended.
My recommendation is to check the current fair-use and hotspot conditions for the specific destination and package before purchasing.
Holafly vs Saily: Which Would I Choose?
During our Austria road trip, my partner used Saily while I used Holafly.
That gave us a useful opportunity to compare the two providers during the same journey.
Both generally worked well.
In our Austria speed-test summaries, Saily recorded higher median download and upload speeds and lower median latency.
Personally, I preferred Saily's flexible data packages and lower starting prices.
However, Holafly performed reliably during everyday travel and successfully supported our remote work session.
I wouldn't describe Holafly as a poor choice simply because it costs more.
For travelers who value the convenience of an unlimited-style data package, it can still be a suitable option.
For the detailed results and purchase recommendations, read my Holafly vs Saily comparison.
What About Holafly Plans and Always On?
Holafly also offers recurring subscriptions under the Holafly Plans name.
These are separate from the 16-day Austria travel eSIM I purchased.
Depending on the current eligibility conditions, some Holafly Plans subscribers may receive an Always On benefit with limited monthly backup data after their subscription ends or is canceled.
This can be useful for people who travel frequently and want an emergency data connection between trips.
However, I haven't conducted a comparable long-term field test of Holafly Plans.
I also wouldn't assume that Always On is included with every standard Holafly travel eSIM.
My evaluation in this review focuses on the travel package I actually used.
Holafly Discount Code: Save 5% With NOVICE
If you've decided Holafly is the right choice for your trip, our partner code may help reduce the price.
Discount code: NOVICE
Offer: 5% off eligible Holafly travel eSIM purchases
Enter the code at checkout and confirm that the discount appears before completing your purchase.
I've documented separate checkout verification and the offer conditions in my Holafly discount code guide.
I didn't use NOVICE for my own Austria order because my partnership conditions don't allow me to redeem my own code.
The discount recorded on my receipt is therefore not evidence of a NOVICE redemption.
Discount eligibility and promotional terms may change.
My advice is to choose a suitable package first, then apply an eligible discount afterwards.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Holafly a Good eSIM?
Based on my Austria experience, yes. Holafly provided reliable mobile internet throughout most of our journey, good everyday speeds, and a successful three-hour hotspot session with two laptops.
Is Holafly Really Unlimited?
Holafly offers unlimited data on its Austria travel eSIM. However, local network operators may apply fair-use policies that reduce speeds. Hotspot-sharing conditions can also vary by product.
Can I Use Holafly as a Hotspot?
Yes. During our Austria trip, I connected two laptops to my Holafly hotspot for approximately three hours, including video calls and website work. Check your package's current sharing conditions before relying on it for extensive remote work.
Is Holafly Easy to Install?
The installation itself was manageable. What confused me was purchasing through the website and then setting up my account in the app with the same email address to access the package.
Is Holafly Worth the Money?
It can be worth the premium if you use a lot of mobile data, need internet for remote work, or value the convenience of an unlimited-style plan. For lighter travel, I would compare cheaper fixed-data alternatives first.
Would I Buy Holafly Again?
Yes, for certain trips. I would consider Holafly when mobile internet is particularly important, but I wouldn't automatically purchase it for every vacation.
Final Verdict: Would I Recommend Holafly?
Yes, but not to everyone.
My experience with Holafly in Austria was mostly positive.
The connection worked reliably throughout most of the journey, the app was helpful once everything was set up, and the three-hour work session with two laptops showed how useful the eSIM could be.
The biggest downside was the price.
For a shorter trip with dependable accommodation Wi-Fi, I would likely choose a cheaper fixed-data alternative.
But if I expected to rely heavily on mobile internet for travel and work, I would certainly consider Holafly again.
My conclusion: Holafly is a good travel eSIM, particularly if you value convenient unlimited-style data and are willing to pay more for it.
