My Personal Bitcomet Setting - For Better Download Performance
Tuesday, September 19. 2006, 08:04 AM
![]() My Settings- Not Yours
Secondly, warning from the God of Tech, there is no such thing as a Global International Optimized setting. I will show you how, then it is best that you experiment yourself to make your own optimized setting. Ok, lets begin, go to Option > Preferences or CTRL+P. You should see a window like below. Option > Preferences![]() Look at Global Max Upload Rate, as default it should be unlimited, which is crazy, because your Internet upload speed is not unlimited. It is important to understand that your download rate is inversely proportional to your upload rate, which if i translate that into english, it mean if you set the upload rate more than you can handle, your download rate and total internet speed is going to suffer. So,my Global Max Upload Rate is 40Kbs, and fyi my internet speed is 6MBps, so if your internet speed is lower than mine,do the math, if it is higher, don't tell me about it. And then we have the next setting, see below. Global Max Upload Rate (click for bigger image)I am really a nice guy you know, so i have set that my torrent will only stop automatically when i have uploaded 100% of the file i have downloaded, hey, i am showing good example here, you better follow ;). Stop Task (click for bigger image)Next is Upload Rate setting for per task. Normally i would set it higher, but i download a lot of files simultaneously, so if you are like me, i would suggest these settings. Upload Rate per Task (click for bigger image)Lastly is the holy half-open ports, this is one the vital part of the whole setting idea. You need to first increase your allowed half-open connections to more than 10 using an Utility , but for now, just increase the number Max Half Open TCP Connection to 50, or any number between 10-50 (the bigger, the better) Max Half Open TCP(click for bigger image)Placement of your downloadsWell, i like my downloads to be place where i could easily find them, the default place is under Bitcomet's directory, which takes a lot of effort for me to go there, so i changed the download path to My Documents, see the examples below. Click the button to browse (click for bigger image)Select your preferred path
So that's it, simple, but remember, you need to do experiments yourself to get the best setting suitable for your internet speed and connection. Contact me if you have any problems understanding my simple english or you just can leave your comments. Comments

hi Sue, i have sent you an email, but basically i need you to run a speedtest to confirm you internet speed , the 100mbps is not necessarily be your internet speed, it is usually your network speed. so please head to speedtest.net to checkout your actual internet speed, thanks :-)
dood how about 11mbps wireless... thanks a million if u could give me a helping hand..
mines as slow as snail but others are hitting high notes in days...

Hi smith,
First of all, i must explain that the 11mbps speed shown by your connection doesn't necessarily means that it is your internet speed, the 11mbps is most probably your network connection.
You may test your internet speed by going to this site:
http://www.dslreports.com/speedtest
Please first test your internet speed for a few times, then take the mean speed from all the results.
After you have tested your internet speed, and if it is 11mbps, then please get back to me, i will try my best to recommend you a suitable setting :-)

That is a really great news mate. About the other settings, in my honest opinion, they don't do nothing much to increase your download speed, but that's just me. Anyway, you are most welcome :-)
dude can you please help me with settings that will make my download fly? i'm clueless. i'm on a wireless router at 54 mbps. i did a speed test with the address you suggested and it topped out at like 3400kb/s. i wouldn't expect it to go that fast but my bitcomet is dl at like 15kps. if you could tell me some settings to get up to like 200-300kb/s that would be sweet. thank you.

So, you internet speed is about 3.4mbps , that is almost like mine . Have you increased the number of your Half Open Connections (HOC)? i have written an article about that, if you haven't increased your number of HOC, i would really suggest you do it.
Another thing, since you are using a router, please check if the UPnP setting is enabled, if it isn't, try to enable it and see if there is any increase in speed.
Lastly buddy, depending on the torrent you are downloading, you may sometimes don't get a very good download speed, though there are large number of seeders, because the seeder/peers ratio is too low or because of some other technical reason. If you are still having troubles, please contact me personally, i would love to aid you as much as i can :-)

hi there vikram,
i am really sorry for the late reply, i am really busy with my exam preparation right now. anyway, i will tell you what i have told john. 1st of all, i doubt that your internet connection is 100mbps , it is most likely the network speed, i assume that you are connected to a router or a switch.
so, to know you true internet speed, i suggest that you visit this website: http://www.dslreports.com/speedtest , you will need java runtime environment to run the test.
when you have attained the result, then please manipulate the setting that i have shown you, if your internet speed is higher than mine, increase all the values, if it is lower, than decrease them. i am sorry that i can't give an exact setting, though it can actually be calculated, but it is by no means accurate.
another thing, to have a better download performance, please increase your half open connection in windows, i've written an article about this and i am pretty sure it is quite easy to follow.
sorry that i can't aid you further mate, but in case you have any other problems, please don't hesitate to contact me :-)
this actually works...thanks a lot...i've gain around 120-160kb/s...u r the man!

Hi, I tried your settings and I have to say they work pretty good. I am under a 5 meg down and 800k up connection, my speed tests say I have an average of 3.43mbps down and 600kbps up. (When I download or upload an actual file my speeds are higher, 4meg+ and 75-80KBps upload ALWAYS)
After putting in those tweaks in BitComet (and sometimes before too when I reach around 80kBps) I have noticed that it destroys my connection, I can't surf any sites on any of my browsers.
I am running on a Windows 98/2000 dual boot computer with 192MB RAM as I said a 5 meg and 800kbps connection and I have 4 browsers (IE 6 SP1, Firefox 2, Netscape 4.1 and SeaMonkey 1.6) which none of them can browse when bitcomet is downloading, so if anyone had the same problem and fixed it please help me and also I am asking your help to jumanjisama.
Thanks for everyone who responds
u need to limit the global up load speed to around 80% of ur max upload speed
hello i like to thank u for the great toturial but i am still downloading at 24kb/s, i did a speed test and it came up with 417kb/s download and 100 something upload, can you help me get it up to 100 kb/s. i tryed everything i even experimented with bitcomet and still it doesnt work.
